Tier 1 protection provides the industry class leader in shingle resilience to hailstorms and high wind ratings. The only requirement for this Tier is to use a class 4 rated shingle and cap shingle. The class 4 shingle is a testing designation that indicates the shingle will hold-up to impacts from 2" hail. This protects your home and you from the many hailstorms that routinely bombard our Texas homes. When storms hit with damaging hail but not over 2" in the predominant hail, you should not experience hail damage requiring the replacement of your roof. Therefore, you will not be enduring the damages, inconvenience, time spent, expense and deductibles every time a nominal hailstorm rolls through. This is an excellent and low cost added protection that will allow premium discounts and possible deductible discounts on your insurance policy. These are important features that provide enhanced protection against wind and hail to both the roof and the consequential damages to the interior of your home.

Some of the issues addressed are the minimum requirement of the roof sheathing, a more secure nailing of the sheathing, sealing the sheathing, proper underlayment, improved drip edge requirements, enhanced starter shingle type and installation, upgraded valley installation, proper sealing of all appurtenance penetrations, and the class 4 shingle and cap shingle system.
